Bossasaurus - End of Days
Listening to Bossasaurus you may think honing the fine art of plunderphonics is easy. It's not. Their latest creation, "End of Days," is a tune as heartfelt as Diplo's "Sarah" or RJD2's "Smoke And Mirrors," while sounding like a breath of fresh air. Stay tuned for their upcoming LP also titled End of Days.

Donnis - Diary of an ATL Brave
Donnis, Sammy Bananas, and Nick Catchdubs
It's time you hear about Donnis, a talented rapper from Atlanta with an undeniably smooth flow. Teaming with the production minds of Needlz, the Justice League, and Da Grindaz to name a few, this mixtape is quickly set apart from the noise. Below are my three favorites from the 10.Deep mixtape, Diary of an ATL Brave. Feel free to grab the entire album here, and keep your eyes peeled for his debut Fool's Gold release.

LBCK - gIALLO + Back In The Projects
LBCK (Long Beach City Kids [formerly Semi Automatic]) are two dudes from (you guessed it) Long Beach, CA, and are hooking you up with two twisted electronic jams. "gIALLO" is a Sebastian flavored track (think "Ross Ross Ross") that bangs in its own right. "Back In The Projects" stacks flashy vocal chops over flushing synths and the result is hard and dirty.

Lady Sovereign - Love Me or Hate Me (Botox Bad Beats Remix)
A Lady Sovereign banger? Yes. Boxtox Bad Beats set "the best midget in the game" ablaze with roving, MSTRKRFT-esq synths, and it kills.

I tend to jam to deep minimal house tracks, so it shouldn't surprise you that we've featured Nathan C on the site before and we're doing it again.

Empire Of The Sun - We Are The People (Milke Remix)
The last time we blogged about Milke we dropped their explosive single "Love Get Out of My Way" plus a Designer Drugs remix.
Milke is back, remixing Empire Of The Sun's "We Are The People", for your listening pleasure. The track starts with acoustic guitar strums and a kempt kick, akin to Bob Sinclair's "Love Generation". With the vocals easing in around the 2:30 mark, this 10-minute, club-ready, laid-back mix is one for the books.

Meet Infernal Devices
From the pipes and production minds of Mark Allen and Andy Miccolis comes Infernal Devices, a duo calling-upon facets of Dance and Synthpop to get you movin'. Chock-full of commendable lyrics and stirring melodies, you will find yourself immersed in them.
Keeping with the times the band is giving away one of their newest tracks, "Passengers". It's an upbeat four-to-the-floor jammer reminiscent of Yazoo's earlier days. Download your copy below, and follow them on twitter (http://twitter.com/infernaldevices) for updates.

Orba Squara - Poker Face (Lady Gaga Cover)
You might remember Orba Squara from one of the first iPhone commercials and their guitar-driven track "Perfect Timing (This Morning)." In addition to their success with Apple, they licensed 9 out of 10 tracks on Sunshyness, making their 2007 release one of the most licensed albums since Moby's Play. (crazy, right?)
Orba's latest release is a cover of Lady Gaga's "Poker Face," bolstering the original with loose guitar strums and admirably charming bells. Stream below and grab your copy on iTunes, this one's a keeper!

Saturday Night Fever 26: DJ Dan
DJ Dan is, well, uh, you guessed it, a DJ. But that isn't everything this Olympia, Washington based dude does. When he's not behind the wheels of steel, he's producing bumpin' dance tracks and posing in blue button-downs.
To show you what DJ Dan is all about, we're throwing three hot tracks in your direction. They range from his filtered and hard-hitting "Bam" to the flashy keyboard driven riffs of "Rock To The Rhythm." If these clips don't give you your fill of DJ Dan, hit up his beatport page and grab a hold of more tracks.

Church - King Crow
Hailing from Portland, Oregon, Church is a three-man band that makes folk-influenced pop music. This ear-friendly trio was formed in 2007, and is signed to Sohitek records. You can also catch them live, as they are currently touring the US.
From their second release, Gold, we have a track titled "King Crow." The tune is carried on by the lead singer's lush and dreary vocals, laced over strums of acoustic guitar. Offsetting this delicately-woven track is a thunderous kick-drum and a raw electronic buzz. This is the kind of music you want to listen to on a rainy day with a comforting cup of coffee, as you gaze out the window at the grey clouds. It's a soft track, with a charming and loose delivery.

Saturday Night Fever 25
Back in 1990, Seal released his first single with Adamski. The track, "Killer," was his first huge hit, way before he dropped "Kiss from a Rose." Today we have a remix of Seal's first hot single from Matt Samuels & Abigail Bailey.
Not only did they cover "Killer," they have several remixes on the release, including: Dan Mckie, George Carrasco, Nathan C & Harry Brown, and Roy McLaren. They turned Adamski's down-tempo track into reverberated dance floor anthem. If you dig it, pick up your copy on Beatport.

Ulre - Nobodies Favourite, Peace Corpse, & Struggle and Nothing
Ultre is a dude from the UK that makes absurdly awesome electro-acoustic tunes. Sampling and implementing just about every sound he can, Ultre's music isn't commonplace. Luckily for you, we have three tracks of his to share.
Although Ultre uses a lot of crazy sounds, the thing I really dig about him is the balance. There are sputters of electronic noises that are compensated for by piano and acoustic guitar licks. It makes for well-rounded noise. Imagine the collaboration of Aphex Twin and The Sight Below, and you'd get Ultre.

We are really stoked to share tonight's track, "Stop & Go," a solid club anthem full of funky filters, wobbly leads, and hot samples. It sounds similar to Andrew Friend's "Bump and Grind," but definitely holds its own. If you dig tonight's feature, download more of Mike's tracks at Beatport.

Saturday Night Fever 23: Poka
I was really lucky to stumble upon Galaxy Comète Records, a label working hard to revive disco-house. Taking heavy influence from the solo works of Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo of Daft Punk, Galaxy has several EPs available for free download.
Each artist on their roster samples old disco and funk records, laces them with hard-hitting drums, and filters them to life. Tonight's track is from Poka, a force to be reckoned with in the movement to revive french house. If you dig tonight's bit, click to download Poka's Blast From The Past EP.
Be sure to check out Alan Braxe, TBD, David Bruno, and Robot Blair at Studio B on March 7th!

Blake - Leave Us Alone
Besides for Blake's origins in the UK and being signed to Scion records, we pretty much know nothing about him. What we do know is that he makes heavy bass-driven electro tracks with heavy dub influence.
Tonight's track is off of his Outlaw EP, joined by similar jams "Outlaw" and "Minority." Scion describes "Leave Us Alone" as an "ominous, rumbling b-line, neck-snapping drums and laser sonics set the scene for a trip to a dark, threatening dystopia, all sweeping searchlights, checkpoints and robocops..."

Saturday Night Fever 22
N.A.S.A. is the collaboration of Squeak E. Clean and DJ Zegon. These dudes are not known for their production work, but rather for the star-studded line-up on their debut release The Spirit of Apollo. This includes Del The Funkee Homosapien, DJ Qbert, George Clinton, RZA, Ghostface Killah, M.I.A., Spank Rock, and Santigold to name a few.
Tonight's track is a remix of "Whachadoin?" by Villans. They have been making intense dance tracks for a while now, and this one doesn't disappoint. Check out N.A.S.A. on RCRD LBL for another hot track.

G-Eazy - Wishful Thinking
Bay area rapper G-Eazy is a one-man rap battalion. Armed with some of the freshest self-produced beats, he scribbles down his own rhymes, creating his own style. We'd describe him as a rapper that "doesn't need Ziploc to stay fresh," if he didn't say so himself.
To show you the full force of G-Eazy, we have a track off of the Sikkis mixtape, made to promote Sikkis clothing. "Wishful Thinking" samples one of my favorite movies, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. "Pure Imagination" is a song about endless possibilities, and G-Eazy spits about the harsh realities of being an up-and-coming rapper.
We also want to give a big shout to G-Eazy's mutli-media designer, Tyler Yee. Peep his youtube channel to see some of Tyler's projects.

Saturday Night Fever 21
Tonight's bit is from Germany-based Cygnus X. The group was originally the collaboration of Matthias Hoffman and Ralf Hildenbeutel, but now Matthias is the only member.
They are famous for "The Orange Theme" which is quoted as being "one of the most memorable trance songs." To give you a taste of what The Orange Theme is, we're throwing a flashy remix in your direction. This remix sounds like something Tiesto would have made in the early days. You remember Nyana, right?

Saturday Night Fever 20
Tonight we have a banger from the creative minds of Axwell, Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso, and Laidback Luke.
This track is a bit of an oldie from 2007, but still rocks nonetheless. It sounds a bit like "Shake It Down," the famed club track from A-Trak & Laidback Luke. So crank this funky jam and enjoy your weekend! If you aren't following us on twitter, please do so.
Download: Axwell, Angello, Ingrosso, Laidback Luke - Get Dumb
Mixtape: Hip-Hop Mix
I want to preface this post by saying that all of these tracks are specified by the label for promotional use and were cleared by the Independent Online Distribution Alliance.
I put together this 10-track mix to show-off some of underground hip-hop's finest. Some of the artist are from ABB Records, such as Little Brother, Maspyke, and the Sound Providers. Most of their beats are produced by the incredibly talented, North Carolina based, 9th Wonder.
If you like the mix and want to download it as a .zip, click here: http://drop.io/antlerdartshiphopmix/. Be sure to check out our past mixes: Rolodex Rips & the Rhetorical Mix.

Deltron 3030 - Deltron Event II?
Futuristic hip-hop group Deltron 3030 is the side project of producer Dan the Automator, rapper Del tha Funkee Homosapien, and DJ Kid Koala.
Hands down, Deltron 3030's debut cd 3030 is one of our all-time faves. The album describes life in post-apocalyptic earth, in the year 3030. Del's insightful rhymes provide plenty of food for thought while painting a picture of a dark and distraught future. The beats crafted by masterminds Dan the Automator and Kid Koala will simply blow your mind.
Over the past several years, rumors have been spread of Deltron 3030's return. This album has been named Deltron Event II. Del confirmed that all of the instrumentals are completed, and that he has written six songs. We hope this record drops in the near future.
Today's remix comes from a set of bonus tracks that were released last year. The turntable licks are intense, and sound like GLaDOS's death at the end of Portal.

deerhunter guitarist creates riveting shoegaze
March is shaping up to be a good month.
In my last update, we discussed two March releases, The Whitest Boy Alive's Rules and Technicolor Health, by Harlem Shakes. Deerhunter guitarist (and occasional vocalist) Lockett Pundt will be releasing The Floodlight Collective on March 23.
A good friend of mine recently turned me onto Lotus Plaza, and The Floodlight Collective is, at the risk of sounding hyperbolic, a wondrous achievement. While the bulk of the album is structurally and lyrically low-key, the heart and soul of the record feels cathartic and heart-wrenching. It's shoegazey, yes, but do not mistake its subtlety for a lack of substance.
"Quicksand," the second track on the record, is a brilliantly constructed build-up that culminates with a heavily layered, sonic finale lifted straight out of the Loveless textbook of thematic music-making. Pundt effortlessly creates a the iconic "swirling wall-of-sound," and the murkier elements of 2008's Microcastle/Weird Era Cont. are ever present throughout the album's 45 minute runtime, despite being more nuanced than Deerhunter's acclaimed release. Microcastle is a bit more straightforward, whereas The Floodlight Collective invites us to get lost in its dreamy haze. The track "These Years," for example, comes in immediately following the "release" at the end of "Quicksand" and effectively drowns out the whole thing with a quiet moment of hymnal vocals and ambient noise.
To me, the best part about "Quicksand" is its finely-tuned progression, which steadily builds upwards before reaching a climatic, emotional outburst that really gets ya in the gut.
I'm very happy that this record was brought to my attention and even more happy to share it with everyone. Highly recommended.

Saturday Night Fever 19: 808 State
Taking their name from the Roland TR 808 drum machine and the state-of-mind that they shared, 808 State recorded legendary tracks that Aphex Twin and Autechre cite as being highly influential to their music.
(Yes, that is Björk in the middle). Tonight we have three promo-certified tracks to share. Each one represents 808's style with funky drum-machine grooves, animal sounds, and pungent melodies.

Mongrel - Hit From The Morning Sun ('96 Bulls Remix)
Today really couldn't get much better. I woke up at 8am for my 9am class to find out that classes were canceled! I didn't think city schools would close "due to inclement weather" but hey, I'll take what I can get. Also, we're going to check out TK Webb & the Visions tonight at Webster Hall's Studio.
Aside from all of that, we have a top-notch banger to share.
This one comes fresh from Affinity Music Group's kitchen - a really nice treat for this snowy-turned-rainy Wednesday afternoon. '96 Bulls transforms this pop-rock track from Mongrel into a contender for dance-fest 2k9's remix of the year contest. Hop on it!

Saturday Night Fever 18: Sounderground Records
Sounderground Records is a fairly big label, representing producers as artists and remixers. They've been around since 2006, and we dig their electronic disco-esq vibe.
We have two down-tempo ambient dance tracks for you tonight. The first one is from Germany-based Stefan Tretau, and the second is from Parisian DJ Art Bleek. These two tracks are filled with drum machine goodness and are drenched in glorious reverb. We think they are the perfect jams for jump-starting your Saturday night.

a little bit of some new stuff
Howdy, all. Just got back early this morning from Loren and I's rendez-vous at the Animal Collective show in New York City. More on that experience later.
This evening, I'm a bit more interested in two upcoming 2009 releases (a year which is already shaping up to be above and beyond the disappointment of 2008) ...
First up is indie Rock band The Whitest Boy Alive. While the name leaves quite a lot to be desired, their music is far from lacking. Rules, slated for a March release, is a dreamy collection of groovy pop songs that hone in on some of the finer intricacies of love, friendship, and all that mushy stuff. The band, led by Kings of Convenience front man Erlend Øye, breaks the traditional structure of the genre by occasionally jammin' through a guitar solo or electronic dance break.
Also arriving in March is Technicolor Health by Harlem Shakes, a record so colorful and infectious that it practically spills out of the speakers and buries its way into the back of your head for literally days at a time. It's a bit light and playful, but there's enough depth here to keep you smiling without feeling guilty about your feet tapping along.

Saturday Night Fever 17: Run-D.M.C.
Most rap/hip-hop remixes I've heard are straight-up awful. Producers increase the speed of the MC's flows to create an awkward dance track.
Without ruining Run D.M.C.'s "Hard Times," Victor Imbres mixes a roving dance beat over their legendary rhymes. It is filled with a catchy jumping bass line that is brought to life with hot Latin percussion. Sign up for Victor's mailing list to receive news on his upcoming jams.
Do you think Run D.M.C. deserves a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

Tigersapien - Youth & Vitality (Designer Drugs Remix)
The Designer Drugs remix we posted on Friday was so tight, we knew that when we got another track from these dudes it wouldn't disappoint. Turns out, we were right.
This time they remixed Tigersapien, a foursome of gritty electro rockers. They say the track will let you "feel your face melt off your fucking skull," and we can't disagree with that.
"God Knows" is a track off of their new ep. It really shows how hard these guys can rock out--brace yourself for the breakdown.
